Started a new position earlier in the week, and one of the perks is that I can now connect with my work computer using Cisco's AnyConnect VPN Client. However, ever since installing it, the shared drive I have on that computer is no longer accessible to any other machine on my home network. That computer can still connect to my other shared drives, but not the other way round.
This is mainly a problem because that is the computer I usually use to do transfers back and forth to my Motorola Xoom tablet. I have ES File Manager on it, and the LAN option includes a nice SMB client which meant no digging out a USB cable... until now.
I am fortunate that I was able to find a compatible FTP server app for the Xoom. I tried SwiFTP, but could never get a connection. However, the aptly named FTPServer app worked just fine. I presume that might be a Honeycomb issue since I have a hard time believing the other app is just broken... but you never know.
Some of you may be wondering why I don't use DropBox or Amazon Cloud Drive. Neither of them will let you select a directory to be uploaded, so you have to create the new directory, and then select and upload files ONE at a TIME. Massive time waste and pain in the...
In any case, my ideal situation would be to find a way to stop the VPN software from blocking my SMB share. I've noticed that when it is active that LogMeIn goes offline, and then it comes back online when the VPN has stopped. So you would think you could do the same for the SMB protocol, but so far no success. Feel free to pass along any ideas!
